27th JUNE: SATURDAY TOMs EVENT
Published 08:39 on 29 Jun 2026
The CBYA held what might be the last Saturday TOMs event of the summer. Although we were informed that there would be no Saturday TOMs sailing in July and August, RCNC informed us at the last minute that the sailing school would be unmanned on Saturday 27th as well. With skippers signed up and crew, and given that we had cancelled several previous attempts to sail (due to strong winds etc.), we decided to go ahead anyway, and have the club pay 50€ overtime for someone from the club to be available to hand out equipment.
On Thursday and Friday it started to look like the event would be cancelled in any case as the forecast was for very light winds, but on the day the wind turned out to be a brisk 10-12 kgs. The two boats, skippered by John Mackney and Hugh Epsom went out with 5 members for what turned out to be a fun morning sailing in Calpe Bay.
We will be able to run TOMs events on a Thursday throughout the summer, as the sea school is open during the week, so it you want to sail, or learn to sail on a TOM, please watch out for events in the CBYA calendar.
