27 SEP: 5-CLUBS REGATTA LA VILLA

The first event of the autumn of the 5-Clubs series was at La Villa Marina, Villajoyosa on Saturday 27th September. Very light winds were forecast for the morning and this was reflected in the number of boats that turned up to race - only 26 boats in total and the majority were small boats in class D. Matador is Back

After an absence of a year from competing in regattas Matador is back. We participated in the first of the Autumn series 5 Clubs event this weekend hosted by Club Nautico La Vila, Villajoyosa. The weather was perfect with 6-10 kts breeze from the south and relatively flat seas. A windward mark was laid approximately 1 mile from the start line, after this we beared away and hoisted the spinnaker heading for Benidorm island. After rounding this to port we headed back to the finish line. We were pleased to be the first boat in our class across the finish line and ended up 3rd in class after corrected time, just 5 seconds behind the 2nd placed boat. Now where could we have gained 5 seconds ?  Crew onboard were Barry McCrae and his wife Karen, Andrew Guilbert, and CBYA members Chris Engels, Paddy Bettesworth, Ben Woodcock and our very own Chairman John Mackney (who was invited on at the last minute). A good day was had by all.

The next 5-Clubs event is at Club Nautico Altea on the 26th October. We hope more CBYA owned yacht will be able to take part at that event.
